Drive Rescue Assistant takes one conservative path: understand what the operating system can access, preview readable files, and copy the selection somewhere else.

Inspect the source

Choose a connected drive or a folder the operating system can access. DRA reports the mount state, format, capacity and practical safety notes in plain language.

A visible but unmounted volume cannot be extracted until the operating system exposes readable files.

Preview what is readable

Build a plan before copying. Filter documents, photos, video, audio or archives, search within the preview, select individual files and check the total size.

Preview describes files the operating system can read. It is not deleted-file or raw-sector recovery.

Copy to safety

Choose a separate destination, decide how to handle conflicts and copy only the selected files. Follow progress, cancel safely and review the local report when finished.

Folder copies can optionally use SHA-256 verification and Resume. Those options are not available for ZIP output.
Before copying

Make the destination part of the plan.

DRA checks destination free space, format and writable state before a copy begins. It warns when the source and destination appear to be on the same physical storage.

Never write rescued files back to the troubled source.

Choose a different destination with enough free space. For controlled testing, a different physical device is the safest arrangement.

The boundary matters

Readable-file extraction, not forensic recovery.

DRA does not recover deleted files, read raw sectors, rebuild lost partitions, force-mount storage, bypass encryption or repair physical damage. Recovery is never guaranteed.
